A New Piano for the Choir Room!

After the fire in January, 2004, the Chancel Choir was in need of a piano.  Prayers were answered very quickly when a church in Austin donated a digital piano that they no longer needed.  We have been using that piano all of this time and as will happen, it began having problems.  One of our organists suggested that I put out an appeal for a piano – perhaps someone had one in their home that they no longer wanted.  I mentioned the idea at a choir rehearsal shortly after that saying that I would include it in my next newsletter article.  At the end of that rehearsal, choir members Bill & Libby Freeman and Esther Hall volunteered to purchase a piano for the choir room!  Thanks to their generosity and the help of my friends at Valley Keyboards, we now have a brand new Yamaha Professional Studio piano!  It was delivered on Wednesday, April 23, just in time for choir practice – and what a difference it made!  Thank you, dear friends, for answering my call so quickly!

Happy Mother’s Day!

On Mother’s Day, May 11, The SonShine Players will present 2 mini-musicals during worship called “The Parable of the Rich Man” and the “Parable of the Builder.”  These works are lively, entertaining and humorous.  Yet with all the fun, important spiritual truths are taught.

Like to read?

Did you know that there is a library of several hundred books in the Choir Room?  And who is the librarian who keeps everything in order?  Why, it’s none other than our friend and custodian, Sue Leerhoff!  Why don’t you come in and check out a book?

CELEBRATION SUNDAY CONCERTS

I am now beginning the process of booking concerts for our 2008-2009 Celebration Sunday Concert Series.  As we begin our 11th year, I look back on previous concerts with pride and more than a little awe.  Our church has hosted over 60 concerts, all open to the public and free of charge.  MOST of these performances have been provided by local musicians – a FEW have been performances by professionals from out of the Valley.  All in all, we have certainly provided the community with a wonderful array of talent;  everyone I meet seems to know about THE FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH OF MISSION!  If you have any suggestions for next year’s concert series, please contact me immediately: pathudsonpillar@fpcmission.com  or (956) 581-3990.
